The TFC distribution network is based on the CERN TTC system developped in the RD12 project. The LHCb TFC system deploys the following TTC components:

  • TTCmi: LHC machine interface for timing signals

  • TTCtx: Optical transmitter

  • TTCoc: Optical fan-outs 1:32

  • TTCrx: Receiver chips

The TTCtx is a single mode transmitter and the TTCoc is a single mode splitter, so please note that all fibres used should be of the single-mode type with ST/ST connectors. They may be ordered from from the TS/EL group (contact Luit.De.Jonge@cern.ch or Stephane.Casenove@cern.ch).

All TTC fibres between the TFC system and the TELL1 (including trigger electronics etc in the barracks) will be take care of centrally. All fibres between the TFC system and the TTCoc's in the patch racks close to the detector will also be take care of centrally. However, the sub-detector people should provide all fibres between the TTCoc and the TTCrx's located on the L0 Front-End electronics and alike.

The reference of the single-mode fibre patch cords that you may order from the TS/EL group is e.g.

  • CERN-ST/ST09S00200 ( = 2 m).
