Installing and Using the PVSS-DIM Toolkit on Linux

Installation:

Get the FwDIM
Zip file and extract it
into a directory
(this will create an FwDIM directory).
- On Linux please use "unzip -a"
- Please use the
FW Installation tool to install FwDIM
- Choose FwDIM as the place to "Look for new components"
- Remember to run PVSS00ctrl -f fwScripts.lst
- This will install it into the directory of your choice, from
here on called "Installation Directory" (can be checked on "Advanced Options").

Preparation:

Start a DIM Name Server (if not yet done):

For Windows
- double click on <Installation Directory>/bin/Dns.exe
- For Linux
- source <Installation Directory>/bin/fwDim.csh
(or fwDim.sh)
- type Dns&
- In order to run any DIM Servers or Clients you need to:

Set the environment variable DIM_DNS_NODE to <node name>,
<node name> is the complete name of the node where the DIM Name Server (Dns)
is running, ex. pcepdelp01.cern.ch or lxplus003.cern.ch.
Usage (demo example):

Start a Native Vision Module to Configure and Visualize the System

PVSS00NV -num N -m vision -p fwDIM/fwDim.pnl
(or PVSS00ui ...)

Start the DIM Manager

either from the PVSS Console:
- PVSS00dim -dim_dp_config DimDemoConfig -dim_dns_node
dns_node
- or from the fwDim panel:
- From the "Edit" tab (Option: "Dim Manager")
- You can then start the DIM Server (pvss_dim_server)
and/or the Dim Client (pvss_dim_client) from the <Installation
Directory>/bin directory.
Note: for Linux you have to:
- source <Installation Directory>/bin/fwDim.csh (or fwDim.sh)
- And you will see the data point values updating as in the figure:
- In order to connect new data points to DIM services you can
use the library fwDim
from PVSS scripts or panels or the fwDim panel.
