The figure on the right shows a typical
local lab setup for testing a sub-detector readout. The TTC
distribution system may consist of a TTCtx optical transmitter together
with up to 14 TTCoc optical splitters to drive many TTCrx's or a simple
TTCvx in case the test setup contains no more than 4 TTCrx's. ODIN is
capable of driving both.
The dashed objects may or
may not be needed depending on the aim and the size of the setup.
Here are a list of
advices to set the TFC system up correctly:
-
ODIN requires cooling
and should be installed in the same type of crate as the TELL1
-
Install the CCPC,
preferably with the IP name or alias OdinV2XX where XX corresponds
to the board identifier.
-
Create an account "tfc",
download and install the TFC CCPC software (see
TFC Local Control)
-
The TTCtx,
alternatively TTCvx, modules require a 6U standard VME crate, but
only for power. No controller is needed.
-
If you use a TTCvx:
Use as short LEMO cables as possible to connect channel A and B from
ODIN to the TTCvx. Connect the clock from ODIN to the
TTCvx, not the other way around. Use orange multi-mode ST/ST
TTC fibre patch cords to connect the TTCrx. These fibres are
available from the CERN store but mind that this type will not be
used for final experiment.
-
If you use a
TTCtx: Use as short LEMO cable as possible to connect the TTC
output on ODIN to the I/P input of the TTCtx. Use a single-mode
ST/ST fibre patch cord to connect to the TTCoc. These fibres are
only available from the TS/EL group (contact
Luit.De.Jonge@cern.ch or
Stephane.Casenove@cern.ch).
The reference of the fibre is e.g.
CERN-ST/ST09S00200 ( = 2 m).
-
The TTCoc is a
1U x 19" rack-mounted module requiring no power. If you don't have a
TTCoc you may use single-mode attenuators instead to reduce the
optical signal to a level which is acceptable to the TTCrx
pin-diode.

-
Use the same
single-mode fibre patch cords between the TTCoc and the TTCrx's.
-
Connect the throttle
patch cords between the TELL1 boards directly to ODIN, or HUGIN in
case you have more than two TELL1s.
-
In case your setup
requires HUGIN, use the same type of throttle patch cord to connect
between HUGIN and ODIN.
